Adding Brightness & Brilliance to your Greys

Adding Brightness & Brilliance to your Greys

It took you years to embrace your glamorous grey locks, but lately you’ve noticed your grey hair turning yellow.  How do you return it to its beautiful silvery grey colour? Read on to know how you can add brightness, brilliance and clarity to your greys.

Why Does Grey Hair Turn Yellow?

Several factors can cause grey hair to turn yellow.

One is from internal factors such as medications

Another is the environment, such as too much sun, pollution, or overly chlorinated water or contains water that contains a high amount of iron.

One of the most common and preventable is yellowing caused by hair products that are being used. If your shampoo or conditioner, for example, has a yellow or gold tint to it, then it can stain and build up on your hair causing it to look yellow.

Smoking will yellow your hair.

How to Get Yellow Out of White Hair Naturally

This homemade solution for removing yellow from grey hair is proven to be effective.

Vinegar Rinse to Whiten Grey Hair

  1. Mix half tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (ACV), with two liters of water.
  2. After shampooing your hair, rinse your hair using the vinegar and apple cider mixture.
  3. Work it through your hair and rinse well with clean water.
  4. Condition with a conditioner that is white and style as usual.
  5. Repeat the vinegar rinse once a week.

Colour Treatment to Get Yellow Out of Grey Hair

Grey hair sometimes necessitate using products designed to keep your greys bright and toned. For those who would rather have it handled at one time by a professional, they use a hair colour toner to get rid of the yellow discoloration.

Ask your colourist or stylist for a colour toner to remove the yellow in your hair. A clear or pale violet colour toner mixed with low volume peroxide developer it will last about six to eight weeks.

Here are a few shampoos you could use at home, which do the work. You could also go online and view a decent array of similar products with varying prices.

  • Schwarzkopf Professional Goodbye Yellow Neutralizing Shampoo pH 4.5 – ₹855
  • L’Oreal Serie Expert Magnesium Silver Neutralising Hair Shampoo – ₹566
  • Goldwell Dual Silver Shampoo 250 ml – ₹531

Glamorous Greys

The texture of your hair changes completely as you age.  Grey strands tend to be coarser, drier and more unruly, thus requiring products that deliver lots of moisture.

I’ve noticed my poker straight silky hair turn dry, frizzy and wiry. Using a conditioner after shampooing with the addition of a weekly hydrating mask (Fanola No Yellow Vegan Mask – is highly recommended but only available on amazon.com), helps keep grey hair soft, smooth and shiny.

Use warmed (cold pressed coconut) oil on your scalp every week. Massage in and let it work its magic. Shampoo off after a couple of hours.

Set a schedule to treat your hair, you will feel great and be pleasantly surprised with how it looks and feels.  Erase drab from your vocabulary.

Grey is chic, gorgeous and glamorous!
