make Sun Pharmaceuticals the largest
pharma company in India and fifth largest
in the world.
In 1982, the then 27-year-old Shanghvi

venture Sun Pharmaceutical Industries.
The unit, in his native state of Gujarat in
Vapi, produced exactly one psychiatric
drug. However, the business soon picked
up, thanks to Shanghvi’s acumen and
energy.

most influential people, diversifying into
oil, gas and renewable energy sectors as
well.
Today, Dilip Shanghvi’s relentless pursuit
of excellence continues to shape the health
