Michael Connelly’s grumpy cop-turned private eye deservedly gets another season– the third– of Bosch Legacy.
Four episodes of the 10 have dropped, and when the remaining make it to the screen, it will bring the longest-running franchise on Prime Video to a close.
Bosch Legacy Season 3 is based on the novels Desert Star and The Black Ice and Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) is kept very busy, what with his own former colleagues investigating him for organizing a prison hit on the man who kidnapped his daughter Madeleine ‘Maddie’ (Madison Lindz) in the earlier season. Even though Maddie, a cop herself, often treats her father with a coldness he does not deserve, she is the only one who softens Bosch’s stern demeanor.
Meanwhile, Bosch’s foe-turned-friend, the tough lawyer Honey Chandler (Mimi Rogers) is standing for election for District Attorney, and her association with Bosch affects her ratings.
Bosch gets a case from a distraught woman (Orly Brady), whose family– daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren– go missing, and when the detective starts to investigate, he uncovers a financial scam run by the son-in-law’s employer.
Maddie and her partner Reina Denise G. Sanchez) follow up a case of their own, involving a gang of follow-home robberies, by an audacious gang. The trail leads uncomfortably close to Reina’s home.
The four episodes, keep the action going and pressure on Bosch building up as his daughter avoids his calls, and his only support is the tech wiz Mo (Stephen Chang), who is ready to bend some rules for the right reason.
More complications are lined up in future episodes as Bosch faces tougher challenges. The cop investigating him is killed and Bosch cannot let it go, because the man was a friend just doing his job honestly
Word is that this season wraps up the Bosch Legacy series, which had followed seven seasons of Bosch but the promo reveals the entry of Renee Ballard (played by Maggie Q), who, in Connelly’s series of novels about her, works with Bosch on cold cases and their relationship grows into a warm father-daughter one, Renee being more caring than the temperamental Maddie. It is possible a Ballard-Bosch spin-off series is in the works.
