Veteran actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar, popularly known as ‘Mr Bharat’, passed away at the age of 87 today (Friday, April 4, 2025) after a prolonged illness. He breathed his last at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai.
Born Harikrishan Goswami on July 24, 1937, in Amritsar, Manoj Kumar became synonymous with patriotic Hindi films. His notable works include ‘Shaheed’ (1965), ‘Upkar’ (1967), ‘Purab Aur Paschim’ (1970), and ‘Roti Kapda Aur Makaan’ (1974), films that resonated deeply with the nationalistic sentiments of the Indian populace.
Winner of many Filmfare Awards, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri in 1992 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015, the highest honor in Indian cinema.
