Homeopathy & You – Dr Mukesh Batra

On 27 Aug, 2022 Seniors Today hosted its weekly Health Live webinar. This week we hosted Dr Mukesh Batra, Padma Shri recipient, who spoke and answered questions on Homeopathy for Seniors.

Dr Mukesh Batra is a pioneer of modern homeopathy in India. He brought standardisation and modern technology to a largely informal homeopathy practice. Dr Mukesh Batra received the Padma Shri for his contribution to the field of homeopathy. He has 225 clinics across 133 cities including London and Dubai and has impacted the lives of over 15 lakh people worldwide. Last year, he authored the very popular book,  ‘The Nation’s Homeopath: How Dr Batra’s Became the World’s Largest Chain of Homeopathy Clinics’.

A prolific speaker – having addressed multiple forums in over 20 countries, Dr Batra has written regular columns in multiple international and national newspapers and magazines. He has had some of the longest running television shows on homeopathy and health on Doordarshan and Zee TV in India and in Europe. He has also authored five best-seller books on homeopathy in multiple editions and languages. Dr Batra has shared his experience, research and innovative work through a social media series – Good Health and Homeopathy that touched over 25 million lives.

Dr Batra has also made immense contributions to society through the Dr Batra’s Positive Health Foundation. Not only does he give of his time but also uses his talents be it singing or photography to enrich the lives around him. To realise his dream of a Bimari-Mukt Bharat, Dr Batra runs 191 free clinics that provide lifetime free medicines for the needy. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr Batra  preemptively distributed over 1 crore prophylactic homeopathy doses. These included 20 lakh doses free-of-cost to the Maharashtra Police personnel and their families, and sponsored 24 lakh doses towards NGO Aarzoo for distribution in containment areas and 14 lakh doses to Rotary Club of Bombay.

Homeopathy is a system of medicine that is based on “like cures like”. It is very similar to vaccine therapy. In homeopathy, the exact same is done but with natural plants and substances. So, something that causes a healthy human being, will cure a sick man.

Homeopathy came to India through the court of Maharaj Ranjit Singh, in Punjab. He had a paralysis of his voice box, he couldn’t speak. He was told that one of his followers was an Austrian, so he called for him to treat him. With a single dose of homeopathic medicine, he was able to get his voice back. He then asked the Austrian to stay back and this is how homeopathy spread to India.

France is the largest market for homeopathy. And India has the largest number of homeopathic doctors and homeopathic followers.

Homeopathy can only be practiced by qualified practitioners of homeopathy.

Because homeopathy is so easy to follow, it is divided into 2 parts-

  1. Constitutional part: this included chronic ailments, persons history and personality, etc
  2.  It is like a home kit that you can have in your kitchen, which are also called “dadi May ke nuske”

The latter can be practiced by anyone, and because it is safe, anyone can do it.

Health is always self governed. Thus, if you don’t look after yourself, no one else can help. Awareness about self, good health is what you have to build over the years. So you can have good health as seniors, because you inculcate good habits in your younger years.

Few fundamental things that Dr Batra thinks we should all do:

  • Sleep well. Sleep is grossly underrated. More than 90% of India is sleep deprived, contributed by our irregular timelines. Sleep is cultivated, it requires disciple
  • Eat well. And enjoy your meals.
  • Move well. Our mobility gets affected as we get older, but moving around every now and then, even if it includes not sitting in the same position.
  • Think well. Lack of intellectual stimulation can age you much sooner than you are meant to age.
