By 1953, Lata Mangeshkar had already become the leading female Hindi film playback singer. ‘Yeh Zindagi Usi Ki Hai’, composed by the great C. Ramchandra, is one of her masterpieces. Adding weight to the song is Rajendra Krishan’s lyrics, and Mangeshkar’s ‘alvida’ refrain is astounding. The song is picturised on Bina Rai, who plays Anarkali, and Pradeep Kumar as Prince Salim.
