AMRITA SINGH & RAVI SHASTRI
1980s: The dashing Ravi Shastri was as good a cricketer as he was a ladies man. After all, he was eligible and an ideal catch for any girl. In the eighties, the socially popular Ravi met the feisty and ambitious Amrita Singh and sparks flew instantly. They were quite public about their relationship and were seen all across town and outside cosying up in love. But when it came to marriage, it was a whole different cauldron. Rumour has it that Ravi even got engaged to Amrita. But he was a self-proclaimed chauvinist who wanted a wife whose first priority would be setting up home and playing his Mrs, whilst the independent Amrita was not willing to give up her then rising career for home, hearth, hubby and diapers immediately. They parted company, and in 1990 and 91, went on to marry other partners. Currently though, they are both also divorced from their partners. Last heard, Ravi Shastri was in the news as coach for the Indian cricket team, but had apparently been seen on numerous occasions with actress Nimrat Kaur. Ravi staunchly denies any allegations of a relationship there. Amrita resumed her role as Bollywood actress post her divorce from Saif Ali Khan (eldest offspring of Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi and Sharmila Tagore).
