Today we are showcasing Mutton Dak Bungalow / Dak Bangla Mutton. Mutton dak bungalow is a goat curry recipe that uses a special blend of spices and also has potatoes cooked in the gravy.
This recipe can be traced back to the colonial times in India. ‘Dak stands for postal system.’ The letters under British Raj used to reach different post offices by horseback. Dak bungalows were circuit houses along the postal route for the administrative officials to spend nights.
There was a saying that the caretaker started cooking it as soon as he heard the sound of horses signifying that the sahib or an official was coming.
